Pop, techno or fetish: 6 gay parties in Paris you need to know about
Pop, techno or fetish: six gay parties in Paris, each with its own unique vibe. For each one, we’ll tell you where it’s taking place, what sort of music to expect, what sort of crowd you’ll find there, how much to budget for, and what time to arrive.
Choosing a party is first and foremost about choosing an atmosphere: pop music with a very young crowd, a large-scale venue with live shows, or techno with a strict dress code. Here are six parties the team has attended. Their upcoming dates, and all the others, can be found in the calendar of gay, lesbian and queer events in Paris.
Doctor Love: electro-pop at T7
Doctor Love is a monthly party held mainly at T7. The Pride editions have taken place at Phantom for the past two years, and a few special editions are held at Wanderlust, mainly in the summer. The music is electro-pop, and the crowd is predominantly gay.
Expect to pay around 20 euros for advance tickets: the price varies depending on your arrival time slot. The party starts around 11 pm and finishes at 6 am.
La Purple: pop for 18–25-year-olds
La Purple often sets up at YOYO, beneath the Palais de Tokyo, or at Club Haussmann. On the programme: pop hits. The collective also organises parties in Lyon, Lille and Brussels.
At the door, we saw a very young crowd, both guys and girls, aged 18 to 25. There’s usually a big crowd at the entrance, but the queue moves along smoothly. The party kicks off around 11.45 pm and finishes at 6 am.
Bitch Party: pop and recent hits
Bitch Party returns every two weeks at clubs such as La Nuit or YOYO, with a pop line-up showcasing recent tracks. When we went, the atmosphere was great and the crowd was young.
Early entry slots are priced at around 15 euros, whilst standard tickets are around 20 euros. The party runs from 11.59 pm to 6 am.
VendrediXXL: Vendredix’s large-scale event at La Bellevilloise
VendrediXXL is the clubbing event organised by Vendredix, at La Bellevilloise in the 20th arrondissement. It stands out for its opening hours: from 7 pm to 6 am.
Pop concerts and drag shows set the tone for the early party, from 7 pm to 10 pm. The playroom opens at 10 pm, and the club’s dance floors start to fill up around 11 pm.
During our visit, the party was sold out, with a predominantly gay crowd aged between 25 and 40, though straight people are also welcome. When it gets crowded, moving between the different levels becomes difficult, and the numerous staircases make the venue inaccessible to wheelchair users. Advance tickets generally range from 10 to 27 euros depending on the package.
Flash Cocotte: travelling techno night
Flash Cocotte is usually held at the Trabendo, but sometimes changes venue: La Machine du Moulin Rouge, the Wanderlust or the Virage, depending on the date. The party runs from 11.59 pm to 6 am.
At the door, we found a decidedly techno atmosphere and a queer crowd, with a few curious straight people. The queue is well organised. Advance tickets start at around €14.
Technosterone: techno and a strict dress code
Technosterone is organised by LDMT events at the Nouveau Casino, where the collective also organises Less Drama More Techno. The party runs from 11.59 pm to 6 am.
The dress code is strict: leather, latex, neoprene, jockstraps, nudity, leashes, harnesses or sportswear. Jeans and streetwear are not permitted at the door. Advance tickets cost €20 to €26 in advance, depending on the ticket batch. The event is often sold out: book as soon as the dates are announced.
