Good to know for going out in Madrid

A few practical tips before diving into the local queer scene.

  • Nights start late

Most clubs open around 11:45 pm or midnight, and several open every night, weekdays included. For an earlier start: the Friday and Saturday drag dinner shows (9:30 pm) or the Saturday drag brunch (2 pm).

  • Getting home

The metro runs from 6 am to 1:30 am; after that, EMT night buses ("búhos", N lines) leave from Cibeles and Sol. Chueca, Sol and Lavapiés are all within walking distance.

  • Orgullo (MADO)

Madrid Pride takes place in Chueca on the weekend after 28 June, with the march and open-air concerts; the city hosted WorldPride in 2017. That week's parties are added to the agenda as soon as they are announced.

  • Prices

Club entry is often around €10–15. The current price and ticket link are on every date.

LGBTQ+ history of Madrid

Chueca became Madrid's LGBT district in the 1980s: bars and shops moved in, and it is where the Orgullo celebrations began. In 2005, Spain opened marriage to same-sex couples (Law 13/2005 of 1 July). In 2016, the district's main square, until then Plaza de Vázquez de Mella, was renamed after Pedro Zerolo, a city councillor and LGBT rights campaigner who had died the year before. The following year, Madrid hosted WorldPride.
