Nantes has three LGBT+ bars where you can enjoy a drink, scattered throughout the city centre rather than clustered in a single neighbourhood: Le Petit Marais on Rue Kervégan, on Île Feydeau; La Licorne Noire on Rue de Mayence; and Le Montecito on Allée Duquesne, at the foot of the Tour Bretagne. None of them are open on Mondays.

Each has its own special atmosphere. La Licorne Noire, a cultural café and lively bar that celebrates Afro-Caribbean cultures, aims to be a meeting place for LGBTQIA+ people and their friends and family; it opens from 4 pm, serving house-made cocktails: it’s the place to be for an aperitif. Le Montecito, a gay-friendly cocktail bar, also opens in the late afternoon and stays open until 2 am, six days a week; this is where the drag shows and bingo nights take place. Finally, Le Petit Marais is a late-night bar: it opens at 10 pm and closes around 4 am, from Tuesday to Saturday.

For a full night out, the order almost sets itself from the opening hours: pre-drinks at La Licorne Noire or the Montecito, then Le Petit Marais, which doesn’t open until 10 pm and takes over until the early hours.

If you’re looking for a cruising bar, you won’t find it on this page: Nantes has two, L’Autre Quai on the Quai de la Fosse and the Boy’s Bar on Rue Ogée, both of which are for men only. They have their own section: the Nantes cruising bars page.
