A vaulted cellar dedicated to pop music and drag
The Slay Club welcomes you at 9 Rue Maracci, in the heart of Vieux-Lille, from Thursday to Saturday, 11.30 pm to 6.00 am. Housed in a vaulted brick cellar, the venue attracts a young crowd, mainly aged 18–25, within a queer, trans, non-binary, gay, lesbian, bi and pansexual community, surrounded by respectful allies. Access is via a stone staircase with steep steps; there is no lift or wheelchair access. Downstairs, you’ll find a central dance floor, a bar and a large indoor smoking area.
From pop hits to the weekend dancefloor
Every night has its own vibe. Thursdays attract lots of students with 2000s pop and current hits. Fridays focus on drag shows and artist residencies, with a gradual transition from pop to house. Saturdays remain the most intense night, with clubbing beats, electro-pop and dance music. Shows often start between 1.30 am and 2.00 am. To get a good view of the stage, make your way to the front by 1.00 am or take a spot in the raised side areas.
Good to know
Ideally, arrive between 11.30 pm and 12.15 am to get through the door without a crush and drop your belongings at the cloakroom. From 1.00 am, the queue gets longer as partygoers arrive from the bars in the city centre, particularly the Silom Bar. Make sure you wear a light T-shirt: the vaulted cellar gets hot very quickly.
What people tell us
Regulars describe the club as having an uninhibited atmosphere, where you can sing pop anthems at the top of your voice without being judged. Feedback suggests that being so close to the drag performers beneath the brick vaulted ceiling creates a direct connection with the audience. Several people also highlight the ritual of moving from the Silom Bar after 1.00 am, which gives the end of the night the feel of a family party. Finally, reviews warn that the cellar gets very hot at peak times and that service at the bar slows down between 1.30 am and 3.00 am.

FAQ
What time should we arrive to avoid queuing and get a good view of the drag show?
The best time to get in quickly is between 11.30 pm and 12.15 am. You’ll avoid the queue on the pavement, the cloakroom runs smoothly, and you can order your first drink straight away. The crowd really builds up between 1.00 am and 2.30 am as revellers arrive from the bars. As the drag shows start around 1.30 am or 2.00 am, try to get a spot near the stage or on the raised sides of the venue by around 1.00 am or 1.15 am.
Is there a dress code for entry to the club?
No, there’s no dress code. You’re perfectly fine coming in trainers, jeans or a T-shirt. On show nights, some people choose more elaborate or sparkly outfits, but this isn’t compulsory. The security staff focus primarily on behaviour, alcohol consumption and respect for the safe space, screening out disruptive groups.
What are the prices for admission and drinks?
Admission is usually around €10 in advance and up to €15 on the door, depending on the night, with a coat check costing €2. At the bar, expect to pay €4 to €5 for a soft drink or a bottle of water, €7 to €8.50 for a pint of beer, €10 to €12 for a mix of spirits and soft drinks, and €12 to €14 for cocktails.
Is the venue accessible to people with reduced mobility?
Unfortunately, access is very difficult. The entrance to the vaulted cellar is via a flight of fairly steep stone steps, and the club does not have a lift or access for people with reduced mobility. For wheelchair users, descending the steps is virtually impossible without substantial assistance from others.
How do you deal with the heat and smoking in the cellar?
The club has a dedicated indoor smoking area, so you don’t have to go back up the stairs to smoke outside. However, the vaulted ceiling means the heat builds up quickly once the room is full after half past one. Remember to wear a light layer under your coat so you don’t get too hot on the dance floor.
