Ciné-Gouines 6
📅Friday, 2 October 2026 · 18:00 → 22:00
📍Luminor Hôtel de Ville · 20 Rue du Temple, 75004 Paris, France
🎤Organised by Ciné Gouines
Ciné-Gouines is a series of screenings of queer films made in the San Francisco Bay Area between 1981 and 2015. Norah Benarrosh Orsoni launched this series in early 2026 and, every month, she shares films with French audiences drawn from her research into lesbian and queer history in San Francisco. On 2 October, Ciné-Gouines #6 comes to @luminorhdv with a double bill and some very special guests:
6.00 pm – *Mutantes* (Virginie Despentes, 2009, 90 mins) Comprising a series of interviews conducted in the United States, Paris and Barcelona with artists, theorists and queer activists, alongside archive footage focusing on the political activism of sex workers and performances of a new kind, *Mutantes* outlines the contours of a form of feminism – little discussed in France – that advocates total sexual freedom, much like the pro-sex feminist movement that emerged in the 1980s in the United States.
8.00 pm – Rise Above: The Tribe 8 Documentary (Tracy Flannigan, 2004, 80 mins, French with English subtitles). Compiled from footage gathered over four years, the film chronicles the life of the lesbian punk band Tribe 8, from the members’ origins to their subsequent individual achievements. The film, which won several awards upon its release, offers a unique insight into San Francisco’s queer underground scene.
9.30 pm – Public discussion between Virginie Despentes and two members of Tribe 8, Lynn Breedlove and Leslie Mah, moderated by Tania La Rata and Norah Benarrosh Orsoni
