Ben Gomori announces Trax On Da Tracks tour of Europe by train London-based DJ, producer and label owner, Ben Gomori, has announced an eco-focused tour of Europe by train from October 15 - November 2, aiming to provoke conversation around the climate crisis, slow touring and burnout in the dance music industry. The 2.5-week tour takes in clubs, hi-fi listening bars, radio stations, record shops and live streams in Belgium, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Hungary and the Czech Republic, and will see Ben take part in a discussion around the subject matter at his first date at newly opened Antwerp vinyl bar, Antwerp. “I’ve felt guilt around flying for a long time” says Gomori. ”It seems so ridiculous to fly somewhere to DJ for a couple of hours — particularly when you’re of my stature and the overwhelming majority of people who end up seeing you play don’t even know how you are. I wanted to find a way to make playing abroad less terrible for the environment, and to make it a more efficient process. And to enjoy the travel part of it!” He’ll also be recording mixes live on some of the train journeys for his YouTube channel, and will be streaming his sets from selected locations via Mixcloud LIVE. He’s also running a fundraiser for music industry climate charity, Earth.Percent, with 100% of the donations going to them. “I don’t believe in disregarding our personal and collective power and leaving it to governments and policy to change things” he says of his motivations for organising the tour. “I believe in personal accountability and our ability to all make changes in our lives that en masse can shift the needle. Our personal choices influence others, and if you are in a position of influence, you have more responsibility to use it for the greater good.” “Slower, more enjoyable touring is also better for our mental health. There have been way too many cases of burnout and worse in our industry. I believe touring by train and taking things slower rather than the fastest and most lucrative routes is good for us.” Ben co-runs the party and label Balearic London alongside Ariane V and Gaucho, as well as his own Monologues Records imprint. This year he made his debut for the Berghain family at nd_baumecker’s legendary Revolting party in Lab.oratory, played at Sao Paulo Pride and SundaySunday in Mexico City, and released his EP ‘Inner Luv’ featuring a collaboration with Lauer. He also hosts the weekly Turned On Podcast and runs Pitchblack Playback, a series of deep listening sessions in the dark which take place across the world. “I hope this Trax On Da Tracks can become a blueprint for my future touring habits, and inspire others to look into slower and more eco-conscious ways of touring.” Expect an eclectic night of vinyl grooves alongside as Ben plunders Shelter's in-house collection, sprinkled with a few of his own gems.
